ABSTRACT
The postwar reality was shaped by the lasting consequences of the Great Patriotic War. The population endured a prolonged struggle to improve its socio-economic conditions and to overcome difficult psychological stages. The overall condition of the state deteriorated after the war, and the administrative system functioned with considerable weakness. The Soviet Armenian village, which had shouldered much of the postwar burden, sought to overcome both newly emerged and prewar challenges.
In the villages, as throughout the country, corruption and various forms of abuse had become more widespread, further aggravating the situation. Employment opportunities were scarce, and rural communities lacked the necessary equipment to improve the everyday conditions of agricultural workers. As a result, the existing problems not only remained unresolved but continued to accumulate.
Although the Soviet Union emerged victorious from the war, the rural environment of Soviet Armenia still needed to stabilize and reorganize in order to overcome the emerging challenges. In particular, the families of those who had participated in or perished during the war—many of whom expected an improvement in their living conditions—often did not receive adequate state support, and their expectations remained unfulfilled. The population remained under the influence of postwar stress, and in many cases, their behavior and way of life were shaped by those circumstances.
